Sea Together Surf Adventure in Miyazaki, Japan: March 2-7 2027
Co-hosted with special surf guest Yurana ませゆらな from Japan.
There's something special about discovering a new coastline, finding your rhythm in unfamiliar waves, and sharing those experiences with other women who love surfing as much as you do.
Join us in Miyazaki, Japan, for six days of surfing, exploration, learning, and connection.
This Sea Together Surf Adventure is an opportunity to spend time in the water, explore a new surf culture, and grow in your surfing alongside a small group of women. Throughout the week, we'll enjoy guided surf sessions, group coaching, shared waves, and a few video analysis sessions to help you better understand your surfing, develop your skills, and build confidence in the water.
We'll be joined by special surf guest Yurana from Japan, bringing together our love of surfing and the opportunity to experience a little more of what makes surfing in Japan so special.
This is a Sea Together Surf Adventure, created for intermediate surfers and above.
Our Surf Adventures are for women who are comfortable surfing independently, can paddle out on their own, and are ready to explore new surf environments. We love bringing women together through surfing, but it's important that everyone attending has the experience and confidence needed for this type of trip.
If you're wondering what we mean by a Surf Adventure or whether your surfing level is a good fit, please visit our information page for more details.
Are you a beginner? We'd love to have you join us in Japan, too! We're planning a separate beginner-friendly retreat in May 2027.

Accommodation
We'll be staying together in a Japanese-style Airbnb for five nights, 6 days.
There are two shared sleeping options available:
- Japanese futon beds: Traditional floor bedding in a shared Japanese-style room.
- Bunk beds: Raised beds in shared accommodation.
We'll have 7 guests max, allowing us to keep the experience personal and give everyone room to connect.
Meals
Meals aren't included in the retreat price. We thought about having a private chef, but we want to leave room for everyone to explore Miyazaki's local food, cafés, and restaurants and support the local community. We can enjoy meals together throughout the week, with everyone responsible for their own food and dining expenses.

Surf Retreat Testimonials

The Sea Together retreat was my first surf retreat experience! I am so happy I took the leap and went for it. I met so many amazing women and now have more surfing friends to go on trips with. Bri was an amazing host, she is so kind, down to earth, funny & knowledgeable! She made us cute little journals for the weekend that had prompts and was so thoughtful and intentional. She had us all set agreements for the weekend which made for a safe space to share and a great container for the group. Not only did Bri give me great tips while surfing she also gave us local knowledge about the wild animals and surf etiquette which I really enjoyed! This is an accepting and intentional community bringing together women to come as they are and be themselves in the sea!

I want to talk about being a participant in a Sea Together retreat. It was just incredible. So from a distance, she creates community for Sea Together remotely and everything. But like in person, I would just like to say like she is even more creative, and facilitating this in-person inclusive and community environment, and it is really special. Sea Together retreats make surfing super fun again, if you ever were disheartened by surfing, go surfing with Bri because of the environment she creates of connection, community, and going surfing with women of different backgrounds, and we're all at different surf levels, but feeling a sense of camaraderie while we're there. Being able to participate in that is something really special and something beautiful that Sea Together also has created. What Sea Together means to me is like connection on a really deep level, both from a distance and during those retreats.

"Bri is able to explain the fundamentals of surfing in unique ways personalized to her students. She comprehends how to approach maneuvers, similar to the pros. She will take you from beginner to intermediate; or as in my experience, intermediate to advanced. I highly recommend Bri for all surf levels. She will help you accomplish your goals in the water. Furthermore, through Sea Together she has created a community space for female surfers where we can be recognized for our accomplishments and can support one another at sea and on land."

Attending Sea Together surf retreat has truly been a life-changing experience for me. From the moment I arrived, I felt an immediate sense of belonging — like I was part of something meaningful and supportive. The retreat not only deepened my connection to the ocean but also introduced me to a powerful and uplifting community of women who share a passion for surfing and self-expression. What sets Sea Together apart is the way it fosters empowerment through community. Whether it was cheering each other on in the water, sharing stories over meals, or creating art and conversation together, heading out on a crabbing adventure… every moment felt intentional and inspiring. I left the retreat feeling stronger, more confident, and more deeply connected — not just to others, but to myself.

Bri created a space where we used art to tap into our creative selves, and she paralleled the ocean to our inner wisdom or spirit — and I really felt that too. She also talked a lot about inclusion, which means a lot to me as someone who is mixed-race. It was hard to join a group as I am usually a loner, but it felt so good. And now, this weekend, a few of us local women are going to surf together — a dream come true for me! It was amazing to hang with our own group. I felt empowered, I felt seen, and I felt like I belonged!! Obvs: come one, come all — it is all levels, all backgrounds, all ages, all types friendly.

The Sea Together winter retreat was a magical experience, and Bri is an amazing facilitator and leader. After the retreat, I felt more confident in the water and comfortable taking up space in the lineup. I no longer feel like an imposter as a surfer and instead now I fully embrace my identity as one. My stoke for surfing also increased exponentially. I'm grateful to have participated and will carry myself with more confidence in my abilities moving forward.

Raw Testimonial: What Emily Loves About Sea Together Retreats
Emily has joined our surf retreats and camps 4 times in the last 12 months and plans to join more in 2026. Listen to why she loves our surf retreats.
Surf Retreat Host & Founder of Sea Together
FOUNDER of Sea Together since 2017, and Retreat Host Bri is passionate about facilitation, and bringing people together, in all situations from small beach towns to bringing strangers together stuck at a Melbourne airport.
She holds an MFA in Socially Engaged Art, and is an Art + Surf Studies Professor so she loves bringing creativity into every space she facilitates, as well as thinking about how to facilitate safe spaces, and exploring the ethical considerations of being in places and communities.
Growing up going to 6 high schools in 3 states and always being the “new kid” equipped her in having a sensitivity towards the subtle shifts in a group and how to include everyone. She also comes from a multiracial background and loves to be a bridge between different people.
Bri has grew up between Hawai’i and California and lived in the PNW for 10 years and has a soft spot in her heart for Aotearoa after living there for periods of time twice. Being a surfer for 20 years, she loves sharing her excitement for the ocean with others.
