Surf Retreat Testimonials

  • The Sea Together retreat was my first surf retreat experience! I am so happy I took the leap and went for it. I met so many amazing women and now have more surfing friends to go on trips with. Bri was an amazing host, she is so kind, down to earth, funny & knowledgeable! She made us cute little journals for the weekend that had prompts and was so thoughtful and intentional. She had us all set agreements for the weekend which made for a safe space to share and a great container for the group. Not only did Bri give me great tips while surfing she also gave us local knowledge about the wild animals and surf etiquette which I really enjoyed! This is an accepting and intentional community bringing together women to come as they are and be themselves in the sea!

  • I want to talk about being a participant in a Sea Together retreat. It was just incredible. So from a distance, she creates community for Sea Together remotely and everything. But like in person, I would just like to say like she is even more creative, and facilitating this in-person inclusive and community environment, and it is really special. Sea Together retreats make surfing super fun again, if you ever were disheartened by surfing, go surfing with Bri because of the environment she creates of connection, community, and going surfing with women of different backgrounds, and we're all at different surf levels, but feeling a sense of camaraderie while we're there. Being able to participate in that is something really special and something beautiful that Sea Together also has created. What Sea Together means to me is like connection on a really deep level, both from a distance and during those retreats.

  • "Bri is able to explain the fundamentals of surfing in unique ways personalized to her students. She comprehends how to approach maneuvers, similar to the pros. She will take you from beginner to intermediate; or as in my experience, intermediate to advanced. I highly recommend Bri for all surf levels. She will help you accomplish your goals in the water. Furthermore, through Sea Together she has created a community space for female surfers where we can be recognized for our accomplishments and can support one another at sea and on land."

  • Attending Sea Together surf retreat has truly been a life-changing experience for me. From the moment I arrived, I felt an immediate sense of belonging — like I was part of something meaningful and supportive. The retreat not only deepened my connection to the ocean but also introduced me to a powerful and uplifting community of women who share a passion for surfing and self-expression. What sets Sea Together apart is the way it fosters empowerment through community. Whether it was cheering each other on in the water, sharing stories over meals, or creating art and conversation together, heading out on a crabbing adventure… every moment felt intentional and inspiring. I left the retreat feeling stronger, more confident, and more deeply connected — not just to others, but to myself.

  • Bri created a space where we used art to tap into our creative selves, and she paralleled the ocean to our inner wisdom or spirit — and I really felt that too. She also talked a lot about inclusion, which means a lot to me as someone who is mixed-race. It was hard to join a group as I am usually a loner, but it felt so good. And now, this weekend, a few of us local women are going to surf together — a dream come true for me! It was amazing to hang with our own group. I felt empowered, I felt seen, and I felt like I belonged!! Obvs: come one, come all — it is all levels, all backgrounds, all ages, all types friendly.

  • The Sea Together winter retreat was a magical experience, and Bri is an amazing facilitator and leader. After the retreat, I felt more confident in the water and comfortable taking up space in the lineup. I no longer feel like an imposter as a surfer and instead now I fully embrace my identity as one. My stoke for surfing also increased exponentially. I'm grateful to have participated and will carry myself with more confidence in my abilities moving forward.

    Brianna

FOUNDER of Sea Together since 2017, and Retreat Host

Bri is passionate about facilitation, and bringing people together, in all situations from small beach towns to bringing strangers together stuck at a Melbourne airport.

She holds an MFA in Socially Engaged Art, so she loves bringing creativity into every space she facilitates, as well as thinking about how to facilitate safe spaces, and exploring the ethical considerations of being in places and communities.

Growing up going to 6 high schools and always being the “new kid” equipped her in having a sensitive heart towards the subtle shifts in a group and how to include everyone. She also comes from a multiracial background and loves to be a bridge between different people. Bri has been surfing on and off for 18 years and grew up between Hawai’i and California and lived in the PNW for 10 years and has a soft spot in her heart for Aotearoa after living there for periods of time twice.

Being a surfer for 20 years, she is excited to share her process of gaining wisdom from the ocean with everyone — from people/beginners who are just starting out on their surf journey to others who are learning new skills in their surfing or learning how to surf new and more complex waves! She loves to encourage people in their surfing and you can check out her personal instagram @briandthesea
